Hybrid Hearing on “The Urgent Need for a National Plan to Contain the Coronavirus”
On Friday, July 31, 2020, at 9:00 a.m. ET, the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis, chaired by Rep. James E. Clyburn, will hold a hybrid in-person/remote hearing with National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Dr. Anthony Fauci, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Dr. Robert Redfield, and Assistant Secretary for Health at the Department of Health and Human Services Admiral Brett Giroir.
The hearing will examine the urgent need for a national comprehensive plan to address the coronavirus pandemic with three key officials leading the response.
Their appearance follows reports that more than 1,000 Americans died from the coronavirus yesterday, the highest number of daily coronavirus deaths in more than a month, as the number of new cases continues to rise.
After the Trump Administration initially declined to make witnesses requested by the Subcommittee available, Chairman Clyburn wrote to the Vice President and the Secretary of Health and Human Services on July 14, “It is imperative that Congress and the American people hear directly from the federal government’s top health experts about how the Administration intends to address this dire situation.”
