Clyburn Statement on the Biden-Harris Administration’s Global Summit to End the Coronavirus Pandemic
Washington, D.C. (September 22, 2021) — Today, Rep. James E. Clyburn, Chairman of the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis, released the following statement on the “Global COVID-19 Summit: Ending the Pandemic and Building Back Better,” convened by the Biden-Harris Administration to chart a path forward to end the coronavirus pandemic and rebuild global health security:
“A global pandemic requires a global response. Today’s summit marks significant, coordinated international progress on public health measures such as global vaccination distribution, increased testing, standardized treatment and supplies, and alignment around common targets and future preparation efforts.
“We know the only way to protect against the rise of dangerous variants and bring an end to the pandemic is to increase vaccinations everywhere. I commend President Biden on calling for a global vaccination goal of 70 percent of the world’s population by this time next year and for our government’s planned purchase of an additional 500 million vaccine doses to donate to low- and lower-middle income countries. We must continue to make urgent and critical investments—both at home and abroad—so that we can defeat this virus and grow the American economy.”
