Clyburn Issues Statement on Authorization of Coronavirus Booster Shots for All Adults

Nov 19, 2021
Press Release

Washington, D.C. (November 19, 2021) Today, Rep. James E. Clyburn, Chairman of the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis, issued the following statement after the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authorized booster shots for all adults, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommended booster shots of Pfizer and Moderna coronavirus vaccines for anyone 18 years and older at least six months after their second dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine or at least two months after their initial Johnson & Johnson dose:

“I enthusiastically support CDC and FDA’s decision to expand the eligibility for booster shots of the coronavirus vaccines to all individuals 18 years of age and older.  The initial vaccine doses still offer strong protection against severe illness, but protection against infection can wane with time.  Today’s decision enables all adult Americans to reacquire robust protection against becoming infected with the virus and spreading it to others. I applaud the Biden-Harris Administration’s anticipation of the need for booster doses and foresight to plan and prepare for the effective and efficient distribution of booster shots. Our best chance to control the pandemic and save American lives is through widespread vaccination.  I urge all adult Americans to get fully vaccinated, including with a booster shot as soon as they are eligible.”
