Press Release
Washington, D.C. (January 21, 2021) — Today, Rep. James E. Clyburn, Chairman of the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis, issued the following statement praising President Biden’s announcement of the National Strategy for the COVID-19 Response and Pandemic Preparedness and executive actions to contain the coronavirus crisis:

“Today’s announcement of the Biden-Harris Administration’s national plan to defeat the coronavirus and President Biden’s immediate executive actions to jumpstart this strategy are critical steps to help our nation finally get the coronavirus under control.  The comprehensive, science-based seven-point plan to defeat the virus represents an urgently needed break from the previous Administration’s disastrous refusal to execute a national strategy for testing, supplies, masks, and vaccine distribution.”

“This new approach follows the urgent recommendations the Select Subcommittee has consistently heard from frontline workers, community leaders, public health experts, and medical professionals.  By mounting a rapid national vaccination campaign, promoting and requiring mask-wearing, expanding testing, using the Defense Production Act to mitigate supply shortages, increasing federal reimbursement to states and Tribes for the cost of National Guard personnel and emergency supplies, safely reopening schools, protecting workers, and reengaging with international partners, the Biden-Harris Administration is doing everything in its power to stop the spread of the virus and end this pandemic once and for all.”

“I am committed to working with the Biden-Harris Administration to ensure that this plan is implemented effectively, efficiently, and equitably.  That begins with enacting the American Rescue Plan into law to provide all necessary resources to save American lives and livelihoods and lay the groundwork for a strong recovery from this awful crisis.”
