Chairman Clyburn Issues Statement on 500,000 U.S. Coronavirus Deaths
Washington, D.C. (February 22, 2021) — Today, Rep. James E. Clyburn, Chairman of the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis, released the following statement as the number of deaths from the virus in the United States reached 500,000.
“My heart goes out to the loved ones of the 500,000 who have lost their lives to the coronavirus in the United States. This unfathomable toll is a national tragedy that must never be forgotten. In the memory of those lost, we must end this pandemic as swiftly as possible and ensure that we are prepared to combat future public health threats. We are finally on that path—the Biden-Harris Administration is implementing a science-based national strategy on coronavirus response and pandemic preparedness, and the United States is among the world leaders in administering coronavirus vaccines. Our public health response will soon be bolstered by the enactment of the American Rescue Plan. The tragic marker our nation reaches today affirms our solemn determination to heal, recover, and renew.”
